Following the exhibition Vana Ja Vahtsõnõ Setomaa (Old and New Setomaa) at Setomaa Muuseumid in Estonia in 2025, the newest book bearing the same title has been published by the museum this year.

Luca Berti’s photographs of Setomaa were taken between 2016 and 2024, moving along his journey mainly by bike and taking pictures with an analogue camera on large-format negatives.

Alongside the renovated church interior, you will encounter freshly felled trees, young musicians in folk costumes, fading farmhouses with collapsed roofs, picturesque natural views and much more.

The book is structured according to the nulkas of Setomaa and contains almost 300 photos, which provide an overview of all the nulkas located in the territory of Estonia. Each nulka is accompanied by a Seto-language map and accompanying texts, published in Estonian, Seto and English.

Edited by Setomaa Muuseumid and published in 2026

Format: 416 pages, soft-cover, 21×26 cm
